December Holiday Closures Monthly (Exempt) Employees If you accumulated flex time hours during the months of October, November, and December, you can use those hours toward the required vacation time during the winter break. Monthly employees should use the flex time calendar to track any extra hours worked and those should be turned in to their supervisor. If the exempt employee does not work enough additional hours to cover the three days (12/21/22-12/23/22), they should request vacation time in OneUSG. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to ensure that their monthly employees either accumulate the required additional 23 flex hours or request vacation time off. Winter Break December 21January 2

Bi-Weekly (Non-Exempt) Employees Employees may use already accumulated comp time or they may work extra hours during October, November, and December with permission of their supervisor to apply that time toward the winter break. If the non-exempt employee does not have enough comp time to cover the three days (12/21/22-12/23/22), they should request vacation time in OneUSG. The system will pull from comp time first if it is available rather than charge against vacation time.

UNG Department Spotlight Office of Alumni Relations & Annual Giving Alumni Office staff enjoying the Scholarship Gala Left to right, Wes Thomas, Alberto Perez, Wendi Huguley, Jamie Toburen, Mary Owens and Jared Patterson. The mission of the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving is alumni engagement through programming that targets their time, talent and treasure. We work to create meaningful experiences that remind alumni of the value of their degree and the impact their time at UNG had on their lives which we hope will encourage alumni to engage with their alma mater. We are challenged daily to remember that a recent graduate has very little in common with someone who graduated in the 1950’s, but our charge remains the same for both groups. Events like Photos with Santa Claus at the Alumni House tend to appeal to a wider audience. It also allows us to build those critical relationships with faculty and staff necessary to achieve our mission. So many alumni have fond memories of the impact a particular faculty or staff member had on their experience at North Georgia. It’s our job to remind everyone the role they play in changing lives. We have a terrific team! ~Wendi Huguley-Routhier

HR Foodie Finds ~Natalie Askey INGREDIENTS 2-3 pound beef tenderloin salt and pepper 2 Tablespoons olive oil Mushroom Duxelles 1 pound mushrooms (I use Bella) 1/4 cup onion chopped 3 cloves garlic 6-8 slices prosciutto 3 Tablespoons yellow mustard 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if using frozen) 2 eggs beaten Try this decadent and tender beef dish for your family during the holidays. You won't be sorry you did!

Roll out some plastic wrap and lay the prosciutto so they are even and overlap. Spread the mushroom mixture on top leaving an inch border from the sides. Rub the mustard on the tenderloin and then roll the tenderloin up in the prosciutto and mushroom mixture folding up the sides around the tenderloin as you roll. Wrap the plastic tightly around the beef and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll the puff pastry sheet out on a lightly floured surface. Place the tenderloin in the center. Brush the egg mixture around the tenderloin on the sheet and roll the tenderloin tightly inside the pastry. Brush the remaining egg mixture on the outside of the pastry and cut slits in the top. Sear the Tenderloin Generously salt and pepper your tenderloin. In a large skillet over medium high heat add the olive oil. Sear the tenderloin on each side for about 2-3 minutes until it gets a golden brown crust. Remove from the heat and set aside. Prepare the Mushroom Duxelles In a food processor, add the mushrooms, garlic, and onion. Pulse in the food processor until it becomes puree. Heat your skillet to medium-high and add the mixture. Sauté the mushrooms until they are moist. Remove from heat and let cool. Wrap the Tenderloin 1. 2. Bake the Wellington Bake until the pastry is golden and the beef registers to 120 degrees for medium rare. About 45 minutes. Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Retirement 101 Do I meet the 10+ years of service with the University System of Georgia? When considering retirement, you should consider several criteria: 1. Years of service means you must have been a full-time benefited employee for ten consecutive years or more with no break in service (30 days or longer). 2. Am I at least 60 years of age? (unless you meet 25 or 30 years of service) 3. Do I meet the vesting period for my retirement plan? ORP plan members are immediately vested. TRS has a 10-year vesting period, and one must have contributed actively to the enrolled plan for each month to count. An employee must qualify for all criteria above to retire with USG benefits. How to begin

Requirements to Retire Are at least 60 years old and a benefits-eligible employee of USG for the last ten years. Have at least 25 years of benefited service; the last five continuous years at USG. An early pension benefit penalty will apply if you elect to participate in TRS or ERS and you retire between 25 and 30 years of benefited service, before turning age 60. Have at least 30 years of benefited service (the last five years at USG) established with a State of Georgia sponsored retirement plan. Are totally and permanently disabled and have ten years of continuous service to USG in a regular, benefited position. 1. 2. 3. 4. In addition to your retirement benefits through the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS), Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), or Employee Retirement System (ERS), USG also provides healthcare, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits in retirement, if you meet one of the USG Retirement Requirements. Additionally, you must be enrolled in these plans immediately before you retire. Suppose you are not currently enrolled in these plans. In that case, you should enroll during Open Enrollment in the year before your retirement to be eligible to continue USG retiree benefits into retirement.
