Gordon Granger, landed in Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that all slaves were free.

Older Americans Month (OAM) is a month long observance in the US devoted to celebrating older Americans and their contributions and raising awareness about issues related to age and aging. The term older Americans generally refers to Americans aged 65 and over. Administration for Community Living (ACL) advocates across the federal government for older adults, people with disabilities, and families and caregivers; funds services and supports provided primarily by states and networks of community-based programs; and invests in training, education, research, and innovation. ACL leads the nation's observance of OAM. This year, ACL will be focusing on aging in place - how older adults can plan to stay in their homes and independently live in their communities as long as possible. You can follow #OlderAmericansMonth and check out acl.gov for the latest programs, data, and activity ideas on how to help you celebrate OAM in your community! Diversity & Inclusion
