Active Member - a sorority woman who has been formally initiated by her chapter Alumna - an initiated sorority member who is no longer in college, but can provide recommendations for her sorority Bid - a formal invitation to join a sorority or fraternity issued by the Panhellenic Council or by and individual sorority Chapter - a local group of a national organization, designated by its own Greek letter name Initiation - the formal ceremony which brings new members into full membership of a sorority Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA) - also known as “Pref Card”; binding agreement in which you will rank the sororities you visit during preference round, stating you will accept a bid from any sorority listed New Member - one who has been accepted as a member of a sorority; after a period of education about the sorority, they may be initiated National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) - a conference body consistent of all 26 members of women’s fraternities. UNG has 6 of the 26. Panhellenic Council - governing body of UNG’s 6 NPC member sororities on campus Potential New Member (PNM) - a woman who is participating in the Recruitment process and wishes to explore the possibilities of sorority membership (you!) 5
Panhellenic Recruitment Counselors “Pi Chis” 6
A Pi Chi, or recruitment counselor, is a sorority member who acts as a guide and confidant to a group of potential new members (PNMs) during the recruitment process. They have left their own sorority’s recruitment team to provide an unbiased and supportive experience for the PNMs. Pi Chis help PNMs navigate the recruitment process, make friends, and understand the Panhellenic community. Each Pi Chi has their own designated Instagram account for recruitment! 6

Once you have completed your new member process, you will become a general member. The duties of a general member consists of attending weekly chapter meetings, philanthropy events, and other mandatory events designated by the chapter. Some chapters have service hour requirements per semester required for every member. 10

Most PNMs will carry a bag with some of their personal belongings to use during waiting periods, or to freshen up before rounds. You can bring a bookbag, tote bag, etc., but whatever you bring will NOT be allowed in the Recruitment Rooms 15

During Round One, you will visit all six sororities. You will speak to active members of the chapter and get to know a little bit about you! This is the most casual day, so be sure to be yourself and allow your personality to shine through. At the end of the day, you will rank the 6 sororities. 16
