Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) Beginning in April, eligible UNG employees will receive a $5,000 Cost-of- Living Adjustment (COLA). The majority of pay adjustments will be completed in April, but there are many unique situations, such as mid- year hires, job changes, and leave statuses, which will require manual pay adjustments into May. 8

The $5,000 salary increase is for all active, full-time, regular, benefits eligible faculty and nonacademic staff of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. The increase will be prorated based on full time equivalency (FTE). Non benefited employees, including temporary and those working less than 30 hours are not eligible for the increase. Eligible employees paid biweekly will see the increase and one- time supplemental payment in their April 22 paychecks. Eligible employees paid monthly will see the change in their April 29 paychecks. Who is Eligible? When will the payments be issued? Are 10 Month employees eligible? Yes. If a 10 Month exempt employee’s employment begins before or during August 2021, and the employee worked the full contract period, they will be eligible 9

In April, eligible employees will receive a one-time pay supplement of up to $3,750 based on FTE and the number of pay periods an individual was employed by the state between July 1, 2021 and April 1, 2022. Supreme Court Says Federal Anti-Bias Law Protects LGBTQ Workers A federal employment law—Tit le VI I of the Civi l Rights Act of 1964 —shields workers from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, according to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court rul ing in 2020. The high court found that an employer that fires an individual merely for being gay or transgender violates Tit le VI I . "An individual 's homosexual ity or transgender status is not relevant to employment decisions, " wrote Justice Nei l Gorsuch for the court . "That 's because it is impossible to discriminate against a person for being homosexual or transgender without discriminating against that individual based on sex.
