I am a senior pursuing my Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing and painting, with a minor in art history. I was born and raised in middle Georgia, came to UNG on a day trip with my parents and fell in love. I couldn’t tell you exactly what it was, but I knew this was the place I was supposed to be. I truly found my purpose in and passion for life in the UNG art department. Whether it was analyzing history through visual arts or looking at the world through a photographer’s lens or painting studio practice, my professors have encouraged my every step of my college experience. They have not only taught me, but inspired me to become a professor myself. There is no way I can possibly repay all that the art department has given me, but I do what I can now, and post-graduation, I hope to help ensure that the school continues to grow while retaining all of its most wonderful features. I am a senior pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. When I was in middle school, my grandparents moved in with my family and needed full-time care. Through helping care for my grandparents and a long-term presence of healthcare workers in the family, I discovered my passion in nursing. I chose UNG before my college career even began. During my junior year of high school, I was a part-time dual enrollment student on the UNG Cumming Campus and became full-time my senior year. UNG offered more than a great nursing education, it gave me the opportunity to stay close to family. It was the best financial option and allowed me to keep working for my best friend’s company. After graduation, I would love to become a labor and delivery nurse. I had the unique experience of witnessing the birth of my nieces/nephews, and I would love to be a part of creating that safe space for women as they bring life into the world. My favorite class has been Adult Health Medical Surgery. I love the clinical setting, being able to see the bigger picture, and be more hands-on with learning. “This scholarship has helped me avoid student loans, and offered the opportunity to work part-time instead of full-time. It has also given me the opportunity to live off campus and be partially financially independent from my parents. Being able to support myself is important to me and this scholarship has allowed me to do just that. The Chantal & Tommy Bagwell Scholarship has been the biggest blessing!” MEET BETHANY Chantal & Tommy Bagwell Scholarship MEET PEYTON Gloria Shott Fine Arts Scholarship Bob Owens Art Scholarship Academic Giving 4 “With the help of these scholarships, I have been able to take a break from working several other jobs and can now put all my energy into my art practice. I have several disabilities which severely impact my life, so the less stress that I have in life, the more I can fulfill my life’s purpose. My scholarship donors have been a key part to my success, and I will continue to thank them to the very end of my days.”
