2023 DIR-FINAL2(issuu)

In 2015, the UNG Softball team was victorious at the NCAA Division II Softball Championship. This was not only a win for the team, but also for the University - the first National Championship won in UNG’s history. Fast forward to 2023, our softball team continued to pursue excellence. The Nighthawks secured the program’s second National Championship title with 7-3 and 3-0 victories against Grand Valley State University in May. Donations made toward the softball team have made a significant impact, helping fund scholarships, facilities, and equipment and beyond. National Championships take resources - thank you for helping build champions! THE WINNING TEAM 2023 Softball National Championship I am a proud UNG student-athlete playing the position of outfielder on our baseball team. I am a junior pursuing my Bachelor of Business Administration in finance. When I came to UNG, business excited me and I wanted to learn everything there was to know about business and how it works. I was born in Mexico and came to the United States when I was in first grade. We moved around Georgia a good bit growing up, but I am happy to have found my home in Lawrenceville, and now, on UNG’s campus. Both of my parents inspired me to attend college and encouraged me to continue to pursue my love for baseball. After graduation I would love to play baseball professionally, but I would also love to go into insurance where I can have an impact on the Hispanic population. Outside of the classroom and off the ballfield, I am involved in SAC (Student-Athlete Advising Committee) as secretary, UNG Sales Club, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes); I am a Hawk ‘Em mentor for incoming student-athletes and volunteer often with my baseball teammates. “Thanks to you, I will be graduating debt free, which will be huge for my family and me. Your donations not only impact me in the form of scholarship, but I get to learn in the amazing new facility, the Cottrell Center for Business, Technology and Innovation, and play on the turf baseball field that allows us to practice year-round. Thank you again for all of the ways you impact a student-athlete like me!” MEET JORGE Roy E. Bottoms Scholarship Nighthawk Athletics Giving 14
