I grew up in a remote, underserved area of Central Florida. I never thought that I would be so fortunate to receive a college education. My high school cross-country coach encouraged me to think bigger – to pursue a college degree. As I explored the numerous options, I discovered the University of North Georgia and the Corps of Cadets program. With the assistance of scholarships at UNG, I will be able to achieve my goal, that I believed to be unreachable when I was younger. I am a senior and pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the hopes of becoming a Hospice nurse. I am set to commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army at the end of this academic year. I was selected to participate in the Army’s competitive Nurse Summer Training Program during the summer 2022 semester and was based at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. This year, I proudly served as an executive officer of my company, and as a captain in the UNG Boar’s Head Brigade. I also served as a corps academic mentor in years past and was selected to be the Boar’s Head Brigade senior academic mentor for the 2021-2022 academic year. Mentoring has been important to me throughout my college career; I love giving back and helping incoming freshmen. “I would have never imagined that I would be here. Your faith in wanting me to do the best I can, I can’t put into words what that means to me. I hope to one day pay it forward as you have done for me. Thank you so much!” I proudly serve as a Cadet Staff Sargeant and a squad leader in the Golf Company for the UNG Corps of Cadets. My older brother was a UNG cadet and inspired me to pursue an education at UNG and seek a career in the United States Army. I am a junior studying criminal justice with plans of commissioning after graduation. My goal is to join the Army National Guard military police and serve as long as I am able. I have a passion for learning and like to be involved on campus outside of what I do with the corps. I am the founder and president of the Unarmed Combat Club. We incorporate mixed martial arts, boxing, wrestling and jujutsu into our practice and training. I am also a voting member of the Student Government Association. “I hope that one day I can give back to a student the gift that I received.” Not everyone gets the opportunity for scholarships like I have. Growing up, I never wanted my parents to worry about me, being one of five kids. Not only does this relieve the burden of paying for college, but my family as well. Thank you!
