Divers i ty & Inclus ion Col lege of Heal th Sciences and the Profess ions Spring 2023 DEI Committee Happenings Accomplishments We are focusing on conducting a climate survey for CHSP. The goal of this survey is to understand student perspectives on inclusivity to inform future changes to promote increased feelings of safety and inclusion. We also hope to complete the addition of inclusive language and practice in syllabi and policy and procedure manuals, as well as focus on attending to hiring and retention practices. ~Sue Ann McCall The College of Health Sciences (CHSP) is the second youngest college in the UNG family. The college consists of four disciplines (nursing, physical therapy, counseling, and interdisciplinary healthcare) and offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. The DEI committee was recommissioned by Dean DeSandre in order to support improved DEI efforts within the college. The committee is moving forward with many objectives, such as developing a safe and inclusive environment for students, staff and faculty. The goal of this endeavor is to provide a safe and inclusive space where all feel welcomed, heard and valued. Two committee members have completed the certification in Diversity Studies. All committee members have completed Safe Zone training and Green Zone training. Completion of Study and design proposal for an Inclusion space in HNS for students, faculty and staff. Review of all syllabi regarding inclusive and equitable language. Members in one department conducted a research study entitled, “Racial fallacies in Physical Therapy Students.” The design and distribution of the survey was a collaboration between UNG, Emory University, and Lincoln Memorial University. Work by this research team was accepted for presentation at the Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association 2023 in San Diego, CA.
