Diversity & Inclusion Adult Learners returning or starting college later in life attend college with additional responsibilities that traditional-age students do not. Adult Learners may be taking care of children, aging parents, working a full- time job, and balancing the rigors of completing a degree. Nighthawk Engagement and Student Transitions (NEST) provides programming and referrals to UNG and community resources to help these students succeed. At UNG, the term Adult Learner covers students age 23 or above or students with adult responsibilities. Adult Learners comprise approximately 9% of UNG’s student body, with over 50% attending the Gainesville campus. Knowledge is power, and knowing the resources available to these students can help them succeed in their education journey. Adult Learner and Transfer Lounges (GVL – Student Center and DAH – Hoag 320) provide an excellent place to connect with their peers and study between classes. Calculators, CLEP study guides, and additional study materials are available through the NEST Prior Learning Assessment is an excellent way to earn college credit for work experiences, training and internships, and military training and occupations. The NEST can assist with evaluations and portfolio creations. https://ung.edu/nest/adult-learners/prior-learning- assessment.php 6
