With 20% of the UNG student population having transfer credits from another institution, NEST encourages faculty and staff to be a champion for transfer students by: Supporting transfer students by encouraging them to visit faculty office hours, tutoring services, and additional academic resources as much as possible to mitigate Transfer Shock. Sharing your transfer story if you, too, are a transfer student. Understanding that transfer students have multiple identities. Familiarize yourself with campus resources that support adult learners, veterans, military-affiliated, first-generation, students of color, bilingual, etc. This will be advantageous to their college experience. Celebrating National Transfer Student Week with Nighthawk Engagement and Student Transitions and the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students, held on October 18th-22nd, 2021 to commemorate transfer stories and journeys. An email will be sent out to faculty and staff at the beginning of October to highlight transfer programming for National Transfer Student Week. At this time, we would like to recognize our last year’s transfer champions Dr. Cornelia Lambert, Professor of History, and Angela Van Sickle, Academic Advisor. Thank you for your dedication to transfer students. Another means for faculty and staff to support transfer initiatives is through the Transfer Student Scholarship Fund, in which an endowment is being raised for transfer financial assistance.
