From the Office of Diversity & Recently, the Society forHuman Resource Management completed a national survey of workplace racial/ethnicity issues. These are the findings and recommendations fromthe report. Thesemay have some applicability toUNG. 49% of Black HR professionals feel that discrimination based on race or ethnicity exists in the workplace. Only 13% of White HR professionals and 21% of all HR professionals agree. 37% of Black and White workers feel uncomfortable engaging in candid conversation about race at work. 38% of all U.S. workers agree. 45% of Black workers say their workplace discourages discussion of racial justice issues. 30% of white workers agree. HOWTOTALKABOUTRACEATWORK? Listen, and don’t conflate, compare, or contrast. Discuss, don’t debate. Set goals and honor feedback. 6
